Commitment to achieving Net Zero emissions by 2050

QUANTUMLOOP TECHNOLOGIES LTD (trading as QuantumLoopAI) is committed to achieving Net Zero emissions by 2050.

QuantumLoopAI recognises the urgent need to address climate change and is committed to minimising the environmental impact of our operations. As a healthcare technology company serving NHS patients, we understand our responsibility to contribute to the NHS's own Net Zero ambitions and the broader UK commitment to environmental sustainability.

We are committed to measuring, reporting, and continuously reducing our carbon emissions across all aspects of our business operations, and we encourage our clients, partners, and suppliers to join us in this commitment

Baseline Emissions Footprint

Baseline emissions are the reference point against which emission reductions can be measured. They represent a record of greenhouse gases produced at a given point in time prior to the introduction of carbon reduction strategies.

Baseline Year: 2022

The QuantumLoopAI business commenced operations in 2022 under its holding company INFINITE LOOP HOLDINGS LTD before incorporating as QUANTUMLOOP TECHNOLOGIES LTD in September 2024. As 2022 was the first full year of business operations, it provides an accurate baseline that reflects our business model as a cloud-based software company with hybrid working practices.

2022 Baseline Emissions

Emissions Reduction Targets

QuantumLoopAI is committed to achieving Net Zero emissions by 2050, in alignment with UK Government targets and NHS sustainability commitments.

Near-term Targets (2025-2030)

  • 2025: Achieve 20% reduction from 2022 baseline (target: <6.94 tCO₂e)
  • 2027: Achieve 30% reduction from 2022 baseline (target: <6.07 tCO₂e)
  • 2030: Achieve 50% reduction from 2022 baseline (target: <4.34 tCO₂e)

Long-term Targets

  • 2040: Achieve 75% reduction from 2022 baseline
  • 2050: Achieve Net Zero emissions across all scopes

We will review and update these targets annually as we implement further carbon reduction initiatives and as industry best practices evolve.

Carbon Reduction Initiatives

Completed Carbon Reduction Initiatives

The following environmental management measures have been implemented since our 2022 baseline:

Cloud Infrastructure Optimisation

  • Hosting on Microsoft Azure UK regions, which are transitioning to 100% renewable energy supply by 2025
  • Implementation of auto-scaling to reduce unnecessary compute resources during low-demand periods
  • Regular audits of cloud resource utilisation to eliminate waste and optimise efficiency
  • Use of Microsoft's energy-efficient data centre infrastructure with advanced cooling technologies

Sustainable Office Operations

  • Co-location in WeWork at Canary Wharf, operated by Canary Wharf Group which has sourced 100% renewable electricity since 2012
  • WeWork achieved its commitment to 100% renewable energy across UK operations by 2023
  • Efficient physical office footprint (1,500 sq ft for hybrid workforce) reducing heating, cooling, and lighting requirements
  • Digital-first operations with minimal printing (paperless organisation)
  • All office waste managed through WeWork's zero-to-landfill policy (in place since 2009)

Low-Carbon Working Practices

  • Hybrid and remote working policy as standard, significantly reducing commuting emissions
  • Video conferencing as the default for meetings, eliminating unnecessary travel
  • Public transport and walking encouraged for commuting (no company car scheme)
  • Business travel minimised to essential client-facing events only (2 exhibitions annually)

Responsible Equipment Management

  • Provision of energy-efficient laptops and soft phone systems (no mobile phones issued)
  • Extended device lifecycle through proper maintenance and support
  • End-of-life equipment donated to charities or responsibly recycled through certified WEEE recycling partners
  • Prioritisation of refurbished equipment where appropriate

Supply Chain Management

  • Preference for UK-based suppliers to reduce transportation emissions
  • Requirement for suppliers to demonstrate environmental credentials where possible

Future Carbon Reduction Initiatives

We are committed to continuous improvement and will implement the following initiatives:

2025-2026

  • Transition to 100% renewable energy for all cloud computing operations through Microsoft Azure's renewable energy programmes (target: 2025)
  • Implement carbon-aware computing to schedule non-urgent workloads during periods of high renewable energy availability
  • Further optimise EMMA's AI models for energy efficiency without compromising performance
  • Establish formal supplier engagement programme on environmental standards
  • Achieve ISO 14001:2015 Environmental Management System certification

2027-2030

  • Explore carbon offset programmes for residual emissions that cannot be eliminated
  • Partner with NHS trusts to quantify the carbon reduction benefits of digital-first patient triage (reducing unnecessary GP visits and associated travel)
  • Investigate emerging technologies for ultra-low-carbon AI inference
  • Expand employee sustainable commuting schemes and incentives

Environmental Benefits of Our Service

Beyond reducing our own operational emissions, EMMA contributes to NHS carbon reduction by:

  • Reducing Unnecessary Travel: Digital-first triage reduces patient journeys to GP surgeries for issues that can be resolved remotely
  • Optimising Healthcare Resources: Efficient appointment management reduces wasted appointments and associated carbon costs
  • Paperless Operations: Digital record-keeping eliminates paper-based systems in GP surgeries
  • 24/7 Availability: Reducing out-of-hours urgent care visits through better triage and patient guidance

While these benefits are not included in our Scope 1-3 emissions reporting, they represent significant positive environmental impact within the healthcare system we serve.

Governance and Accountability

QuantumLoopAI's carbon reduction commitments are overseen by the company's executive leadership team, with regular review by the Board of Directors.

 We commit to:

  • Annual review and publication of our carbon emissions data
  • Regular assessment of carbon reduction initiatives and targets
  • Transparent reporting to stakeholders, including NHS partners
  • Continuous improvement in our environmental management practices
  • Alignment with NHS Net Zero commitments and broader UK climate goals
